pop! goes his shoulder
freak accident today.
sam ong dislocated his shoulder while trying to show me a hand roll (or whatever roll).
after he bailed out of the capsized kayak, he emerged from the water holding his arm in an awkward position.
he said in a freaky calm voice " gladys, i just popped my shoulder". and all the thoughts in my head are going"ehh are u bullcrappingme?!", "don't play la, not funny joke"...
i waited for his "just kidding" line but it didnt come... his facial expression didnt change any bit and it finally dawned upon me that we are in deep deep shit.
just us in the open waters. nearest boat/kayak/dragon boat was at least 300 metres away. shore line was at least 500 metres away... imaging me the inexperienced 1 star kayaker trying to tow a kayak back. i think i will spin all the way back.
before i could freak myself out with all these horrifying thoughts, sam took over the situation and in his still very freaky calm voice, told me to grab his paddle and kayak while he held on to the bow of my kayak and used his strength to pop his shoulder back..
i could see he was in much pain. and i was praying like mad "God, pls pls pls get his shoulder back in!! PLEASE!!"
and amazingly, he did.
pheeeeeewwwwww!
THANK GOD. hallelujah! AMEN! i tell you.
GOSH. just thinking of the "what-if-he-didnt-pop-it-back" situation now can set off another panic attack.
and imagine if he couldnt bail himself out of his kayak in time. he could have drown and i wonder if it would ever dawn upon me to jump in to rescue him.
gosh.... 1 week ago he was my instructor, always asking me "gladys are you ok?". and now he's the casualty of this nasty freak accident. my turn to ask "sam are you ok?"
